WhistlePig PiggyBack Bourbon opens with caramel corn and oak in the producer’s notes. Maple and vanilla follow on the palate with a creamy mouthfeel, then herbal tea and a hint of honey appear on the finish. The sequence gives you a sweeter bourbon profile to explore while keeping the finish distinct from the opening caramel notes. This is the six-year-old bourbon expression in the PiggyBack range.

Try it neat first, then over a large cube to compare the maple and vanilla as the glass cools. For a mixed drink, test a Bourbon Sour with fresh lemon and a modest amount of syrup, adjusting the sweetness after tasting. How it’s made: The producer uses a corn-led mash bill with a dash of rye. It ages for six years in barrels with a number-three char before bottling at 100 proof, or 50% ABV.
